The company’s history dates back to 1991 when the insurance sector was liberalized and the Alexander Forbes Group of South Africa purchased the company from Lonhro Group of companies. Currently our head office is in Lusaka, located at Kwacha Pension House, on the corner of Tito & Church Roads. We also have a regional office in the city of Kitwe situated in the Copperbelt province. The Copperbelt is the main copper producing area of Zambia and the country’s economic back bone. With a total staff compliment of 35, we have extensive in house insurance experience and knowledge. In addition to this we have access to Marsh’s respected global industry and specialist practice teams thus enabling us to provide unparalleled solutions for large and complex risks. Our services include risk management, arranging and placement of insurance protection and a truly world class claims service experience. Our client base includes government departments, NGO’s, multinational companies and the SME sector. Our Country Zambia is a land locked country of about 752,000 square kilometres and a population of just under 14 million people. The country gained independence in 1964. Large scale copper mining is the back bone of the economy, however much economic diversification has taken place in the last decade. Agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and construction of infrastructure all today contribute increasingly towards national output. Per capita income is around $1,900 per year and GDP size is pegged at about $27b. A politically stable country, Zambia has witnessed peaceful change of governments, presidents and parties during general elections. The country adopted a democratic system of government almost 25 years ago (in 1991). The national assembly consists of 166 members of parliament of which 156 are elected and 10 are nominated. Additionally we cover some of the largest companies operating in the agricultural and livestock industry. Regarding tourism, we have the major hotel chains operating in Zambia as our clients. Our Local Markets In last 3-4 years a number of insurance companies have mushroomed in the Zambian market. Currently there are about 23 short term and 11 long term insurance companies in operation. Most companies have majority of local shareholding though the South African players also now have a significant presence. It is reported that more licenses are being issued. In the broking fraternity there are about 40 players in existence. Our Regulators The insurance & pension industry is regulated by the Pensions & Insurance Authority (PIA).
