The firm was founded in December 1940 by Fred Bartlett in Bradford. In those early years, when the office staff comprised of just himself and one secretary, Fred Bartlett showed remarkable tenacity and inventiveness in finding and securing new business. After more than 25 years in Bradford, the business moved in 1967 to the neighbouring city of Leeds, following the purchase of Broadway Hall. Originally a residence built 200 years ago for a local surgeon, this imposing building has been substantially altered and extended to become the modern head office accommodation it is today. In more recent times, the firm has successfully developed overseas, and now has offices in USA, France, Germany, Holland, China and Uganda, with a network of professional associates in thirty more territories around the world.
